Today I stumbled on a project posted by Matthew Hazlett. He wrote a tool that convert the feedlist.xml to .opml. It may help you to setup scripts to sync. with other tools that support .opml anyway without having Bandit running (you know we have already build in export your feeds to .opml file). Would be cool, he would also support the way back...

As Dare Obasanjo states: information overload is a real problem for aggregator users. Intelliseek's BlogPulse Web crawler provides a intelligent way to scan the blogsphere for relevant things, e.g. a feed:bursty phrases digest.

www.codeproject.com has now a feed. Subscribed [feed://www.codeproject.com/webservices/articlerss.aspx?cat=1]

Bandit users know about the feature to search content on feeds via feedster. They may also know, that the search result can be returned as a RSS feed (see search engine configuration and use a additional url query parameter type=rss). A few weeks ago as I added support for this I used a different search url that includes also a parameter limit=10. But bad enough: it does not had any effect to the returned resultset and I think, it is also true for the current searches. Then surfing the feedster pages and looking around I learned: I had to visit the feedster preferences page and modify the item named "For any search, retrieve this many results per page (limited to 100)" to a higher value than 10 to get more results (no page feature from within Bandit). Don't bother if the value reset to display 10, after you submitted the page, you should get more results now.
But: isn't that a bit difficult? Why does this setting influence my search result in Bandit? AFAIK we did not send any cookie info along the line. Wouldn't it be much better feedster listen to the limit parameter for RSS typed searches? The Web Preferences are good for Web Users, but should not influence the behavior of aggregators.

Today I had a bit time to experiment with the blogging plugin for MS Media Player. Started w.bloggar, opened File|Settings|Media. Checked some options there: no success :-( OK, maybe restart the player..., no success. Why it does not work? Back to File|Settings|Media of w.bloggar: aaah, I need MS Media Player 9! So downloaded the 13 MB, installed. Start the player, select my Audio CD, start listening. Restarted w.bloggar: Taa Taaaa! Here it is:

I like it as a search engine. But that does not mean, I love it in the real meaning of the word. Yesterday (!) just a few hours before the end of the ASP-Conference at Munich/Aufkirchen I was surprise the following to see as I opened my browser to visit a interesting site:

I recently found the reason for that effect, but dunno how I get the file on my machine. I scanned today with McAfee and Ad-Aware without any success (happy about that, but does not answer my question). The reason was a file in the Google program folder named ggext1.dll. If I just remove the file (reinstallation of the googlebar does not help), the effect goes away.

Then I saw that picture at google.com:

 

and received some links of other bloggers from Dare Obasanjo: Jeff Key or also Julia Lerman and now I have the idea where it comes from   But it was really unexpected yesterday (not valentine's day) and I would like they would only modify their own site and let my machine and applications in my hands...

In the old days I joined RSS Bandit development to get familar with the huge .NET framework and just provide some public benefit to other geeks using Dare Obasanjo's just published RSS Feed Reader. The major goal of enhancements made was to get a more Windows like UI and make it a better feed reader application.
Now, as we have implemented more flagging features, search folders and the like in the last public beta release it seems we have to move our focus from programming a reader pattern to a manage informations and react pattern. Kent Tegel describes one common use case in response to Dare Obasanjo's TODO list. Enhancements to the UI to make it more configurable are welcome. New feature suggestions are also welcome. But much more it would help, if users would describe usage scenarios, use cases, visions about how they would like to use a tool like RSS Bandit!

... starts this morning with the literature list of this article (german) within my favorite magazine I read last evening. My special interest was about the ThreadArcs used in the IBM prototype Remail described there. It is much more intuitive compared to similar research results found at MS Research. Scott Hanselman has also some comments about that here. As the result of reading the ThreadArcs research report I added this as a required feature for RSS Bandit to my internal list. Hopefully we get it done this year. One of the research paper references points to Jamie Zawinski. Visiting the homepage my first thought was: "Now they got me. It has opened my Command Promt window and exec. something like hex winnt.dll" But the second look opened my eyes. And my trip ends up with subscribing it's feed and feel with the man at the right of the first picture in the story: Hey kids, it's Exploding Whale Party Time! (Attention: bloody affair!)
